This month, we'll be talking about self-care. Let's face it, being a mum is hard work. We take care of all the family but there's no one to take care of us but ourselves. So set aside some time for yourself each day to care of yourself. The fact is, if we're all sick and breakdown, the whole family suffers because there will be no one to take care of them.
I'll be using the Personal Development from Ayeina's Productivity journal. If you have it then follow along with me on our self-care journey. If not then you can get any plain book and draw up the tables yourself.
Day 1-2: The first thing I did was Quran journal the ayahs included in the first pages of the Personal Development section. If you like, you can do that too. It's the ayahs where Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change themselves (13:11).
Day 3-4: The next step is to purify our hearts. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "...Beware! There is a piece of flesh in the body if it becomes good the whole body becomes good but if it gets spoilt the whole body gets spoilt and that is the heart." (Narrated by An-Nu'man bin Bashir, in Al-Bukhari).

You can journal about this if you wish. Download the Purify Your Heart colour in sheet and colour it in. As you colour you'll find that it's quite relaxing. You'll be able to focus on the colouring in and your mind will focus on it so that your worries melt away, inshaAllah.
Day 5-6: The next part of the journaling is the stress management. Start at the beginning of the month so you can track how you felt each day and you can see any patterns emerging. Another way to track your mood is to colour in this flower download. First colour in the feeling boxes so you'd have a code for the colour of each feeling. Then each day, colour in the number corresponding to the day and your mood. At the end of the month you'll see which colours were dominant and therefore which mood was dominant or maybe your mood was all over the place.

Day 7-8: If you're feeling really stressed then think about the story of Prophet Ayyoub, peace be upon him. Allah gave him everything then He tested him by taking it all away and even gave him an illness. Yet Prophet Ayyoub remained patient. And when he made this dua to Allah, "Distressed has seized me. You are the Most Merciful of the merciful (Quran 21:83-84), Allah restored everything to him.
If you like, Quran journal these ayahs and reflect on it and learn the dua to use when you're overcome with stress or adversity.
Day 9-10: Now, we're going to look at your self-care goals. Ask yourself what are your daily self-care goals, then your weekly goals and finally your monthly goals. Write them down and try to stick to them.
Day 11-12: Today's a feel-good day. We'll be looking at what's good about us. Write down the things that you love about yourself and write down the things that others love about you. Ask your family members and friends what they like about you most.
Day 13-14: Choose one positive thing about yourself that really resonates with you and download these free positive affirmation flowers and write it inside the flower: "I'm a _____ person." Colour and display it. Everyday repeat this positive affirmation to yourself to boost your confidence. The blank one is for you to write any positive affirmation inside. You can have two affirmations and repeat them daily.

Day 15-16: We're looking for your weaknesses and strengths today. Write down what you think your weaknesses are and how you can overcome them. Then think about the strengths that you have and how you can use them. Write them down.
Day 17-18: To find out what you strengths are, go to www.viacharacter.org and take the test. It will give you the 24 personality strengths in order of what you have most of to the least. Download the Strengths Circle below and write them in the circle following the numbers. Colour in the flower. If you like, you can have your children do it too so you'd know what their strengths are. Write them on the My Child's Strengths Circle.

Being a mother, it’s so comforting to know that my children have spirituality as one of their top strengths, mashaAllah. It means that they have Islam as the basis for their conduct, inshaAllah. www.viacharacter.org , where we did our strengths survey, defines spirituality as ‘having coherent beliefs about the higher purpose and meaning of the universe; knowing where one fits within the larger scheme; having beliefs about the meaning of life that shape conduct and provide comfort.
I believe that spirituality is learned. It’s how we live our life as examples and how we raise up our children to be conscious of Allah and be knowledgeable and practicing of the Deen. Let spirituality be one of your parenting objectives for your children.
Day 19-20: We're Quran journaling the ayahs (4-6) of surah Tin (95). It's about how Allah created us in the best of forms. Journal this and reflect on what it means.
Day 21-22: We're going to take care of the body that Allah gave us by setting health goals today. Decide on what your daily goals are, your weekly goals and your monthly goals for your health. Write them all down.
Day 23-24: Once you’ve got your health goals down (see previous post on what to do) then it’s time to Quran journal about healthy eating and drinking! Allah says in the Quran what translates as: ‘...eat and drink but be not excessive. Indeed, He likes not those who commit excess.’ (Quran 7:31)
Reflect on what it means to not be excessive in eating and drinking and how it can affect your health. Also think how you can apply it to your life so that Allah will be pleased with you. Remember that when you’re healthy and fit you’ll have more energy to be a better parent.
Day 25-26: Declutter both physically and mentally. Make a plan on what you will declutter both in your surroundings and in the head.
I chose to lighten my mental load by not worrying too much about everything and put my trust in Allah that everything will turn out well.
Day 27-28: Today, we're going to try and get rid of our bad habits and set new good habits. Decide which bad habits you want to stop and which good habits you want to start doing. Write them down.
Day 29-30: Use the tracking sheet to track the good habits that you want to establish. Do this for a week.
